I am over here looking at all the first day of school pictures and mother's struggling with what curriculum to purchase, which ISP to go with, etc looking back from a grand mother's perspective now.

How in the world did I survive those years? It was new territory to me, a bit scary, a bit aprehensive, hardly times to be called adventures. Sometimes I felt like a single mother parading her chicks to park days that were free, library days that were free, back yard frolics that were free, mostly sunny days, free, scouring the thrift stores instead of the internet. God's curriculum, His Word, free, encouragement from Church, free.

It is a scary thought to think, of the responsibility one is entrusted with those years and how unwise I was at times. My comfort is that God maybe did give me wisdom, I did not see in those years. We lived with the wisdom that was available to us at that time, the curriculum, the support groups, etc. Because of financially lean years, we as a family did not jump aboard many of the trends of that era. My husband helped record many of the first recordings in the Growing Kids God ways that we attended even though I disagree with some of its concepts. I am happy to say we also did not buy into the Basic Youth concepts and Bill Gothards philosophy even though we attended several times as well as the advanced. Our children attended the children's seminars.

Call me a hick from the boondocks but being raised in a different culture saw me looking from a different perspective. To heck with weaning your child at a certain age. Some need it longer than others and I so took advantage of it. So what if your to be potty trained child walks around with only a shirt.
