THE NOSEY NEIGHBOR May 31, 2020
I HAVE WALKED, AND WALKED, AND WALKED.
We will be patient. We will wait for better conditions. But will we see better conditions?
The circus can continue without me while I go out for a walk.
It has been weeks since everyone was asked to stay close to home. It was made clear for walks as long as it was in our neighborhood. The closures of cherished out door spaces have been limited. I miss the patio and water fountain at church.
I have walked the entire length of my street and back, one side out and the other side back.
I got a chance to walk in the middle of the streets.
I’ve done the every street challenge.
I have walked hours close to sunrise.
I have walked when others are not about.
I have not done the figure 8 walk with home at the center as I have not had to stop at home for a snack or nature taking affect.
In the past few months, I have walked the familiar streets countless times, I began to notice new and interesting things.
I began to “collect” details as evidenced by my photo walk and videos. It gave me a passion for revisiting those nearby streets as well as the next neighborhood.
I began to “collect” photos of similar traits, and yes, did some research. I’ve seen homes being transformed.
On first glance, if you live in the city, it would appear there is not much nature to explore, but on my “nature” walks, I see squirrels, cats, dozens of chirping birds, flowers, trees, and many other plants. Finding cool looking nature is the epitome of my day.
I have developed a deeper appreciation for all that makes up my neighborhood.
I have developed a deeper appreciation for what God has provided under these limited circumstances. A perk of the quarantine turns out to be a bird sanctuary as their LOUD chorus of the early morning serenades my walk and lifts my spirits.
Nature is reminding us that God always gets the last Word.
Watching the emergence of Spring has been a gift from God.
Any plans to go out for a walk this evening have escaped. We are essentially in sequestered Sunday evening lock down within a lock down due to the curfew set for all cities of LA county.
Our neighborhood that was beginning to awaken is back to an unusually eerie and quiet evening. Nobody is out and about at this time which is usually when many neighbors are out walking dogs or their kids.
Such unusual times we find ourselves in.
